The UCR business school inducts 46 business students into the prestigious international honor society.

(May 20, 2011)

The UCR School of Business Administration (SoBA) held its third annual Beta Gamma Sigma induction ceremony on May 19. This year the business school inducted 46 undergraduate and MBA students into the international honor society, more than in previous years. Dean David W. Stewart, Professor of Accounting Michael Moore, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Business Programs Kazi Mamun, and Assistant Dean of the Full-Time/Part-Time MBA Program Nahid Razavi presided over the ceremony.

Founded in 1913, Beta Gamma Sigma provides the highest recognition a business student can receive in a baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate (graduate) program at an AACSB-accredited school. Beta Gamma Sigma's mission is to "encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business, to foster personal and professional excellence, to advance the values of the Society, and to serve its lifelong members."

The UCR chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma was approved in 2009 with Dean Stewart as chapter president and Moore as the chapter's first advisor. The UCR chapter was recognized as an exemplary chapter in 2010.

For MBA student Thao Nguyen, whose relatives were in attendance to witness the event, this was her first time being part of an honor society. "I am really grateful to have been selected," she said. "It's an honor to be in the top 10 percent of my class this year."

Of the honor, undergraduate student initiate Monish Punjabi said, "I'm grateful to UCR for having a local chapter here and fostering business in the community and helping students reach their potential."
