The A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management welcomed its most diverse and international cohort of graduate students

On September 22nd and 23rd, 2017, the A Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management held two days of orientation activities for the incoming class of MBA, Accounting and Finance students.

This year’s incoming graduate students are the most diverse and international cohort ever, representing China, Taiwan, Korea, India, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Canada and from across the United States. The class also represents the highest academic achievement of any cohort, based on GPA and GMAT results.

The Graduate Program continues its growth trajectory. A few years, ago the incoming graduate class was doubled. This year, its intake has increased by another 15%, making the 2017 incoming graduate class the largest in the history of the school.  

Addressing the incoming class, Dean Yunzeng Wang emphasized the many advantages that our diverse environment offers. “The natural diversity of our faculty, staff and this incoming class is a tremendous resource for each of you. Because together, we create an environment that will challenge and inspire you,” said Dean Wang.

Keynote speaker, Royce Ngiam ‘01, shared the secrets that enabled him to thrive in his industry. He encouraged new up-and-comers to “think for yourselves and seek to understand the factors and drivers that lead to success by understanding your business inside and out.” Royce Ngiam is the Assistant VP of Marketing at The Walt Disney Company Partners Federal Credit Union. He has led an outstanding career in finance, advertising and marketing at the largest entertainment company in the world.

The two days of orientation activities provided more than just the basics needed to be successful at UC Riverside as a graduate student. The new cohort is prepared and inspired to be stay actively engaged with our Career Development Center, student associations and the extracurricular activities available to them, all which form part of an exceptional educational experience.
