On October 20, five full-time MBA students from AGSM competed in the AT&T Regional Case Competition at the company’s offices in El Segundo, CA. This year was the first time that UCR was invited to compete. Other participating teams consisted of MBA students from UCLA, USC, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and Pepperdine.

Teams were provided a case study during a group conference call on Friday, October 14, and had less than one week to prepare a 15-minute presentation. The case asked teams to come up with creative solutions that would enable AT&T and DirecTV to enhance their reach and profitability in the digital video market. Each group presented to a panel of three judges, all Directors and Vice Presidents at AT&T.

After each school competed, students were treated to a presentation about DirecTV satellite technology and lunch while the judges deliberated. UCLA was declared this year’s winner, and they took home a prize of $5000.

The AGSM Career Development Center continues to build a strong relationship with AT&T. CDC staff members Heidi Cuthbertson and Dina Mouris both attended the competition, and look forward to UCR’s continued participation in this event. In addition to providing a great experience for students, AT&T also uses this competition as a way to identify possible candidates for internships and full-time employment with the company.
