Dean's Speaker Series Welcomed John Osley ('89) 

Industry lessons on marketing and selling technology in a rapidly changing world
"Remember, you are selling an outcome, not a product." 

John Osley is the Director of Global Product Marketing at Curvature, a fast growing I.T. solutions provider based in Santa Barbara, California, where he leads the product marketing and business development team. He graduated from UC Riverside in 1989 with a degree in Business Administration and completed his MBA at Pepperdine University. John also serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council for the School of Business Administration. 

Mr. Osley spoke on campus on as part of the 4th event in the Dean's Speaker Series. He shared key lessons he has learned from marketing and selling technology in a rapidly changing global landscape. Most importantly, he outlined three lessons; to know your customer from every angle, to build strong relationships with customers, and that in marketing you need to look at the bigger impact -- "Remember, you are delivering outcomes and solutions, not a product." 

As a technology executive in the computer networking industry, John’s career experience includes sales, marketing, and channel positions at leading tech companies – most notably at Cisco Systems for over 10 years. 

The Dean’s Speaker Series brings successful leaders in the business community to share their expertise. Designed to foster critical discussions about business issues, it also provides networking opportunities between corporate executives and business students. Dean’s speakers have achieved national and international prominence in their respective fields and represent a diversity of cultural, political and economic perspectives.
